Chapter 16: Taking Care of Business
Dante sighed and went back to his shop. Why did I ever move to Fortuna? He asked himself. He still felt a small buzz in his head and now that it was clearer than prior to Lillian running away; he realized that she must have thought he was going to shoot her. Damn maybe I shouldn’t have gotten that drunk. He thought. It took him a while to get back to the shop but when he did the sun was setting and he figured that Lillian would be safe with Nero. He picked up ebony and Ivory and his long red leather jacket. Then he placed Rebellion on his back. He planned on going back to the demon city to take care of his forgotten business. He grabbed one of the five books he owned and flipped through the pages looking for the picture of the necklace that Lillian had.
Dante wove through the traffic in his car he knew exactly where he had to go but it wouldn’t be easy to get there. It was the city of Outcast the only safe place for demons in the human world. He was going to see an old friend who could translate the words on the folded paper in his pocket.
“You’d better not be busy Grethen.” He murmured to himself watching the sunset. He wondered how Lillian was with Nero. He was a little peeved that she’d rather stay with Nero than him. He shook that thought off and concentrated on the road.
Nero had made some omelets for him and Lillian. Lillian smiled and leaned in the doorway.
“You don’t have to do this.” She blushed even though the smell of the eggs made her mouth water. Suddenly her stomach contradicted her words. Nero smiled at her.
“That’s not what it sounds like.” He chuckled. Lillian blushed and looked down. Nero put an omelet on a plate and the other on a different one, “There.” He smiled. Lillian blushed and sat down next to him at the table.
“Thanks, Nero.”
Dante slowed and stopped in front of the first bar, which was owned by Grethen. He sighed and turned off the car. He didn’t bother to look up at the sign.
