1. Jagger
Our warm breathes made plumes in front of our faces in the cold air. Footsteps crunched on the gravel inches from my face. I bared my teeth in a silent snarl, my instincts telling me to spring. The person shifted the branches of the bush of where we, Alice and I, hid. Looking for me.
Alice moved closer to me. Somehow, once again, she was stuck with another of my problems.
Andi had been dead for a bout a month now, along with Mary and my siblings.
Alice and I had decided to take a break from the city and stay in the woods. I just didn't think my mentor, Sinex, would still be so determined to find me after I'd killed my own students. I didn't think he, my creator, would find me.
Well... Alice never thought I'd find her at Stanton's mansion either.
Never underestimate a tracker.
I pulled Alice closer to me. Due to my vampire blood, she was a normal vampire. And, because of that, we could hear each other's thoughts. We were bonded, no matter how shitty that sounds.
'Jag....?' Even though we couldn't be heard, she was still nervous. I could feel the anxiety pulling on the small threads of my conscious I kept locked on her, 'How will we get out of THIS one...?'
'Simple. His senses are dying,' I grabbed a rock that was near my hand. Oh so carefully, I chucked it far enough to where he would hear it. After a moment, Sinex stopped and headed after the rock. Alice and I crawled out from the shrubbery. She wrapped her arms around my neck, kissing my cheek.
"Lets go check in with the others," I muttered to her.
Stanton and I were still not on the best of terms, but that was to be expected. After all, I'd stolen Alice from him.
I allowed myself a smug grin as I leaned against the wall of their kitchen. They listened to Alice as she told them what had happened, and I filled in a few details for her through our mental link.
Once I walked in, Stanton had gone upstairs. But I listened as he walked in, glaring at me as I leaned against his wall. Everyone seemed to hold their breath for a moment.
"So," He snarled, "You brought our happily little family back into your macabre troubles?"
"I can't keep Alice away from me, and she doesn't want to leave you guys. So, you get me too."
Stanton looked about ready to punch me then. I smirked at him, my hand fisting into my sleeve as my arms were crossed over my chest.
A fight would get some of my tension out at least.
He watched my hand before walking past me and sitting at the opposite side of the room.
Paine, Kit, and Alice all turned to look at me and I shrugged.
"Its true. I wont leave Alice and she wont leave you. You're stuck with me. We're a packaged deal."
I winced as Paine threw a pencil at me, thankfully the length of it bought off my forehead.
"So, we have to worry about more of the people you know?" Paine asked quietly.
"Thankfully, no. Sinex is too stupid to go after our little Alice," I said, pushing off the wall and ruffling Alice's hair before leaning over her, "He'll come straight for me. This one I'll handle alone. Only two or three days tops."
"Jagger...." Kit muttered, "What can Sinex do?"
"Steal senses," I shrugged, "Easy to avoid."
"Jagger, let us help!" Alice said, grabbing my shirt.
"Nope. I'm heading out tomorrow. I wont need any help. Stop worrying."
"I'm not worried!" Alice's voice slowly started to squeak, "But you can't do that to me!"
I sighed before pulling her out of the chair, "You guys relax. You don't mind babysitting for a few days, do you?"
"Not at all," Paine smiled.
Frankly, I liked him best.
"Just don't try to eat her up there," Stanton snarled. It didn't take me long to figure out what he meant. My playfulness did sound... Awkward in a way.
"I'll try not to," Is mirked, carrying Alice up the stairs and nearly tossing her on her bed.
"Jagger! You can't go off! Not like that!"
"I have to, love," I smiled, "I don't want you getting hurt."
"Stop trying to be a hero, Jagger! You don't have to do this alone!"
"Yes, I do," I said, setting my jaw, "I can't have any of you getting hurt or--"
I blinked, looking toward the window, watching the black shape outside.
"Oh, Fuck," I hissed and launched myself through the glass, knocking the man to the grass, pinning him down. He was blond with bright blue eyes. He looked too innocent, too sweet for my tastes.
I snarled at him, pulling my arm back to punch him, just when someone grabbed my arm.
I linked, looking at who it was. Paine.
"What...?"
He shook his head and pulled me back from the boy as he stood. Stanton and Kit circled him and Alice was sitting in the tree by her window.
"Don't shoot the messenger," The boy grumbled, dusting himself off, "Master Sinex sent me."
Even the name made me snarl.
"He invites Jagger and his coven--" A snarl from Stanton now "--To the woods. He would like to talk with Jagger alone but you all are welcome to come. In two days from now. Midnight."
And suddenly the boy was gone and Alice was standing in front of me. Yelling at me for being too rash and too hasty.
I wasn't paying attention.
I knew that boy. I recognized him. For a moment I thought about it, back to when I was human. But, I couldn't remember anything that far back.
"Jagger! Are you even listening?!" Alice hissed. I blinked.
"Sorry Alice. What was it?"
"You're not thinking this through," Kit muttered.
"Jagger, we can help you. We're going to go with you," Paine said, releasing me.
"No," I shook my head, "I'm going. ALONE."
"You stupid..." Alice hissed, "We're helping you and you're turning us down?!"
"I can handle it, Alice," I smiled.
"Jagger," Stanton muttered, "You shouldn't be here right now."
I blinked, "What...?"
"Maybe... you should go. For a little while," Paine muttered. I snarled, taking a moment to glare at all of them.
Then is when I felt my heart shatter. Alice nodded in agreement.
I blinked and backed away from them, "Fine. To Hell with you then."
I turned away from them striding down the street. Like Hell they'd see me break on the street. Like Hell I'd give Stanton that satisfaction.
Then I felt Alice break off our metnal link.
I hissed before darting down the street, planning on getting home and drowning myself if I could.
As son as i'd returned to my apartment, I collaspsed on my couch, hissing at Alice's scent.
I planned on washing everything possible tomorrow. Meaning I'd have to change my bed sheets, wash everything of mine she'd worn...
I groaned and pulled myself up, turning on the streo as I passed it and got to work.
For once, I was worried about what my anger would push me to do.
(MWhahaha. Uber long postage. Don't expect it to be like this again.)
