Mira walked quickly down the street. She wanted to get as far away from home as she could before her father go home.
The reason--her and her father were fighting right now. He had a trip into the next two for two weeks and couldn't afford to bring Mira with. The town was also about a day away, so there was no point for her to go, she'd never get to school on time anyway (Not that she minded at all.)
She tied her short, chinlength blonde hair up with a black bow and pulled her brown sweater closer. The only color on her was the black bow.
She had on brown jeans and brown hiking boots. Even her eyes were brown. Not to mention the brown sketch book clutched in her hand.
She wanted to get into the woods and do some drawing. This time of year she could get the perfect picture of a nuthatch drawn.
It was the start of october, which was odd for the birds to be out. But, they always were. Besides, the woods always threw off this kind of mysterious aura and Mira was attracted to it.
Besides that, she could see all kinds of animals out.
She winced as she crossed the street. "Brown Eyed Girl" by Van Morrison was blaring from a truck as she walked by. He dad always used to play it for her, and since she was mad at him....
It had been one of her favorite songs before too...
She sighed and ran into the forest, taking up her spot on a tree stump and started drawing the mushrooms growing by her feet.
"Do you remember when... we used to sing: Sha-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-ti-da..." She murmured quietly, humming part of the song. She shook her head, trying to get it to go away.
She ended humming "I Have A Dream" quickly.
After a while, she stood and stretched and started wandering through the trees, looking for some insperation when she heard crying.
She paused. There was a large oak tree in front of her, the crying coming from the other side. She blinked before glancing around it carefully.
"A... kit-fox...?" She muttered, watching it thrash. She bent next to it, trying to figure out what was wrong, only to see its leg caught in a trap.
"Oh my God!" SHe crouched down next to it, "Just stay still."
It blinked at her. It was a dusty brown color with large brown eyes. It instantly calmed down when she told it to.
Mira didn't take any notice of that, instead grabbing a branch from nearby and prying the trap open.
"There you go," She sighed, moving the fox's leg out, "That looks bad..."
She snapped her fingers in an idea and pulled the ribbon from her hair, tying it arouns the small fox's leg.
"There you go. Isn't that better?" Mira smiled. She could've sworn the fox nodded at her before it ran into the woods.
"I'll tahnk you properly later...!" A voice called as the fox ran off. Mira blinked.
"Did it just... talk...? No, animals can't talk," She shook her head and stood, going back to where she left her things by the tree stump. She nearly jumped, for there was a fully blossomed red rose sitting ontop of the sketch book, a black ribbn tied around it's stem.
"Thats odd..." She murmured, picking up the rose. The ribbon looked excatly like the one she'd just used for the fox.
Suddenly a raindrop splashed on her nose.
"Raining...? Oh no! I've got to get back!" She gasped and grabbed her things and running back as soon as it started pouring.
By the time she got home, she was soaked to the bone.
"At least the sketch book is safe," She sighed and wandered upstairs, not suprised to see her father sleeping on the couch.
"Bed..." She murmured.
