I told myself that the day I actually met a vampire or werewolf, I'd belive they did exist... But... I never knew that it would actually happen. I yawned stretching out on my bed. It was raining outside and I was curled up with a good book. What better way to spend a Sunday? As some Aly and Aj somg started to play, my cellphone started to vibrate. I picked it up, turning down the song. "Hello?" "Hey, Kaelin, its Amarzia. I found something. You've got to come see it." "What? I can't! I'm busy!" "Its Sunday! C'mon, live a little." "No way, I don't want to get into trouble." "You seriously need to get down here! You have to see this!" "No way." "Lin! Please!" I could hear her puppy dog look. I sighed. "Alright. What do you want me too see?" "I need your help. There's a guy here... He's really hurt!" "Where are you?" "My mom's vets office. He brought in a large dog, but he was hurt too!" "Alright, I'm on my way." My brain was racing as I got up, grabbing my rain coat and boots. How could someone be that hurt? How could I, the straight-a, never-get-in-trouble-girl get wrapped up in this? I dashed out the door, crawling into my car.

It didn't take long to get to the vets. The windows were dark as I got out of the car. Knowing Amarzia, she probably took him to the back. As soon as I got out of the car though, the door cracked open. "Thats odd..." I pushed it open, and nearly collasped. Blood everywhere... the chairs ripped up, tables shattered and overturned, papers everywhere. Something told me to run... but, I stepped inside anyway. "Amarzia...? Are you in here...?" Somewhere; something snarled. "Hello?" I walked down the hall and the snarling grew louder, "Whose there?" A door swung open and I peered inside. What stared back at me where two crimson red eyes and gleaming, blood-stained teeth.

I wiped my mouth on the back of my hand. Who was she? I cocked my head to the side, hoping to get a somewhat better look at her. I'd never been told that that scientist had another kid. The girl stayed frozen, watching me with a look of horror and fascination as I licked my finger clean of the scarlet liquid spattered there. "A-Amarzia..." the girl stammered. "...where is she? What...?" Her hands trembled as she brought them up to cover her mouth, her blue eyes wide with fright, and her back bumped the wall behind her as she tried once again to widen the distance between us. "Y-You killed t-them all...." I sighed. The girl had just doomed herself. My orders had been to kill the girl and her mother--and any witnesses that stumbled in. I reached for her, and she squeezed her eyes shut, as if hoping I wasn't real, and my fingers tangled into her perfect blond curls, my opposite hand closing on her wrist, and I pulled her closer.

I tried to stumble back. I could feel my heart beating madly. I tried not to think of what happened, and tried to back away, get out of there, away from the entire place, away from him but I was held so easily. "L-Let go..." I tried to move, lean away; anything, but I couldn't. I felt frozen. For a moment, I wondered what Amarzia had gone through. The same thing? But... Amarzia was a strong girl... She could've done more, gotten away faster than this.... I thought of the wreckage on the ground. I was pretty sure there was something I could step on that were jerk up and hit him....

"Stop!" she commanded. pulling her wrist from my grasp. "Just hold still!" I snarled through gritted teeth, and I watched as she threw herself at the nearest piece of debris on the ground. Her hand closed over the leg of a broken chair, and before I could think to guard myself, she bashed me in the side of the head. Pain exploded through my skull, fireworks flying in front of my eyes. She ripped her hair free of my grasp, running for the door as I stumbled back to my feet, feeling blood curling down the side of my cheek.

I darted for the door, moving as fast as I could. I'd barely grabbed the handle, when I heard him behind me. I opend the door and slammed, winced when he crashed into the glass. I darted for my car, hastily locking the doors and starting the engine. I could still feel my heart thundering.

"This girl is going to cost me my money," I hissed to myself, racing through the parking lot. I jumped for her, landing on all fours on the hood of her car, snarling at her through the glass. I slid to the side of the car, punching a fist through the window, and I reached inside. She screamed. Carefully climbing over pieces of broken glass, I slid into the car, pulling the keys from the ignition. "What do you want?" she asked softly. She sounded so broken, so defeated. It almost broke my heart. "You see, your friend and her mother were both problems." I explained in a calm, level voice, placing my hands on the shoulder of her seat, the other on the lock on the door. She was trapped, yet she didn't fight back at all. She truly wanted to hear the reason. "I was hired to dispose of them." "B-But I didn't do anything to you..." she whispered.

"You saw what happened," He said simply. I pressed my back against the dorr. The onl,y thing I could try to reach for was the pocket knife, but he was leaning against (The arm rest in the center.... that thingy. I forgot the name), where I had stashed it. "A-And now I h-have to die....?" I whimpered. "Bingo." "B-But what did they do....?"

I sighed. "Don't think I'm going to spill everything to you just because your going to die. You humans are so very...mundane." I rolled my eyes. "Think of something happy before you die." I removed my hand from the seat, closing it around her throat. "It won't hurt." My thumb pressed to her windpipe, only with the lightest of pressure, before I felt something splash against my wrist. She was crying. "I can't die yet..." she said. "I'm doing so well...everything was so perfect..." Her perfect face crumpled. "I can't die yet."

For a moment, he hesitated, his fingers barely brushing my skin. He shook his head, and his grip loosened, "Everything was perfect?" He hissed, "Nothing is perfect." I grabbed his wrist with one hand, the other trying to pry his hand off the lock, "I-I can't die yet. N-Not yet...."

"Your like a broken record." I narrowed my eyes. "Your too wrapped up in this perfect little life. I'd give you a week before it all crashed around you." She shut her eyes, setting her jaw. "If you think its so mundane, then just hurry up and do it. Just kill me." I smirked at her. "Goodbye, then." I sneered. Then, a felt pain jolt through my body, burning through my blood, and blood splattered against my face. When I looked down again, the girl was smiling, and a knife she'd pulled seemingly from nowhere was now buried deep in my arm.

He blinked at the knife in his arm for a moment. Then, it happened--He let go of the door. I hastily unlocked it and fell onto the concrete of the parking lot. So, he was faster, but I just hoped I knew the town better. There was a house I could get to, down the street. An elderly couple that had known me for ages.... If I could get there... I stumbled to my feet and bolted down the sidewalk. It started raining.

I gasped as I pulled the knife out. Blood dripped on the leather seats and the asphalt of the parking lot. She was getting away. Not like I'd let her go that easy. I hurled the bloody knife with all my strength; whatever I aimed for, I hit head on. The blade sank into her back with a sickening squish. She fell to the ground with a cry, and I could only stare, mouth dropping open. That blow was meant to sever her spine and kill her. I'd missed by mere inches. I walked slowly to her side. She was crying silently, her eyes closed, taking frantic, shallow breaths. She was dying. The words I'd told her only moments ago rang in my head: It won't hurt. I wanted to leave her. I wanted to let her die quietly, cold and alone in the rain, and go and retrieve the money I'd been promised. ut, instead, I found myself scooping her up into my arms. "You're going to be fine, you stupid mundane," I hissed to her with false anger. Almost automatically, her small fingers closed over my shirt, bunching it up in her hands. "What's your name?" I whispered to her, lips brushing her ear.

"K-Kaelin," I stuttered, keeping my eyes closed. I felt numb, my back throbbing uncomfortably. I could feel the rain splashing on my face, and I could feel warm tears. I wanted him to put me down. Just leave me alone, leave me where I was. Had my life been ripped apart with one simple phone call? Just one? In half an hour? I found it hard to believe. And I found Amarzia to blame. My best friend since I was little. It was her fault this happened.

"Pretty." I said absently. "You're coming back with me. Your a witness, so I can't let you go, I'm afraid." "But my family!" she protested weakly. "My life! You can't kidnap me like this!" "Would you rather," I snarled, "have me murder them, as well?" She was silent, instead of protesting as I thought she would.

'Stupid Amarzia,' I thought, 'I knew I should've stayed home. I knew I shouldn't have listened to her. I'll be all over the news now.... I'll be the one suspected for murder, not him... Or I'll just be a missing person who every one will forget about.' And I didn't think anyone would care. I lived with my Aunt and uncle, who fought as much as they stayed home. I was always home alone. All the time. And the entire town... everyone knew me.... "Why don't you kill me....? Leave me here....? Aren't I dying...?"
