16. Betreyl What had just happened...? One minute... I was intent on killing her and the next I was hauling her through the dying town. I sighed. Indecisiveness. Then I stopped. The air had changed. There was a new scent…I faintly remembered it. I slowed my step, glancing around the corner. A girl stood there. Her eyes were a very cloudy blue, matching her hair. Almost silver. She looked innocent--light blue dress, wispy bangs in her eyes. 'Cloudy eyes....’then it struck me. She was blind. "Fawn," I muttered. She looked up, small smile taking her face. "Trey." I stepped out of the shadows toward her. "Fawn... What are you doing here?" "We've been flushed out at Cetbal. Everyone is on the run." "Who flushed you out...?" "The ghouls. Their leader... Their leader made base there," She said timidly.

17. Emily "Cetbal is gone?" I pushed my way through the brush, thankful that Trey had had enough of a distraction to finally release his stranglehold on me. That must've been why there were so many ghouls coming here... The girl turned her head slightly in my direction, her pale blue eyes focusing in on my face. “The ghoul’s leader has made base there.” She repeated. “And the people who didn’t get away have been infected.” “Crap,” I muttered, placing a hand over my forehead. “This is much worse than I thought…” “Who are you?” the girl asked me in her soft, high-pitched voice. “I take care of this kind of stuff,” I snapped. “And you are…?” “A survivor.” She said with a smirk. My eyes narrowed in her direction; I could tell we weren’t going to get along. Hopefully Trey wouldn’t invite her as well, mostly because I didn’t want /another/ weirdo following Deimos and me around.

18. Betreyl I walked over to Fawn, "Who else got out?" She lifted her hands, fingers brushing against my face. She was trying to figure me out. She jerked back, brow furrowed. "So much has happened to you..." She muttered absently. "Fawn, Who else?" I pressed. "As far as I know, Oasis and I," She muttered, looking away. "Fawn, what did you see?" She looked away. "Everything that will happen to you." I shook my head. "We can't stay here any longer. Lets go."

19. Emily By the time we were getting close to Cetbal, Fawn was noticeably jumpy. Even though she couldn't see, I knew she could sense everything; the footsteps of the ghouls who'd invaded walking on the deserted road, probably hear the transformation of the people who'd fallen behind, the poison spreading through their bodies like wildfire. She shuddered. I grinned; so I'd been right. I'd coaxed Deimos out of my shadow a while ago; we walked side by side, just like Trey and the girl in front of us. "There's going to be hundreds in there." I whispered to my companion. "Positive." he said simply. "And how long will I last, do you think, when I don't have any bullets?" Deimos straightened, actually calculating my chances. "Approximately two minutes." I groaned. "I'm dead." But, almost as if he was on cue, Trey wheeled around to face me, cramming a box of ammo into my open hand. "You can pay me back later,” he whispered, so low that not even Deimos could hear. It sounded almost like a promise; as if he would get what he wanted whether I'd give it freely or not. Instead of allowing him to give me the box, I snatched it from his hand. "Whatever," I snapped, pushing past him so fast that our shoulders banged together. His was like solid stone, and it sent a wave of pain down my arm. I tried not to cry out, but I didn't have enough time to hide my wince. I was walking past Fawn when she leaned towards me. I was expecting something snotty to come from her pretty mouth, something that would mock me. But instead, she whispered, "Thank you for coming with me." I gave her a puzzled look, stopping in my tracks. Then she gently took my arm--she had good perception for a blind girl--before she continued. "I can see everything about you,” she murmured. "We are...alike." "Alike?" She nodded. "There's something inside you that you know nothing about. But you will...in time. You’ll understand soon." And with that, she dropped my arm and continued walking, acting as if she hadn't spoken to me at all. I stared at the back of her blue dress, dumbfounded and completely confused. Deimos appeared at my side, followed by Trey, who was only a few feet behind him. I turned to my Guardian. "Deimos," I said slowly, "Are Fawn and I...alike?" He didn't pause even for a second. "Positive."

20. Betreyl I hung back. Something was wrong. Fawn... She would not have come back—let alone lead. I watched the ground, seeing the details in blood splatters. How did Fawn find me...? I hadn't been in Cetbal for years, yet she found me like I'd left an address for her. And she was unscathed. There was something she wasn't telling us. And I was going to find out. I walked past the Ghost and Emily and to Fawn. She glanced at me, trying to smile. "I need to talk to you," I said to her in an undertone, "And we're stopping until you do." I grabbed her arm, forcing her to stop," So, we can do this easily," I clenched my hand, she cried out, "Or I can force you."

21. Emily Do it the hard way! I found myself thinking. I could barely hide my grin as Fawn's face transformed, fear plain on her pretty face. "W-What are you t-talking about T-T-Trey...?" she said, her smile faltering. Even though she couldn't see him, he must've done something to frighten her, since she shuddered noticeably for a moment before he squeezed her arm harder. "You know exactly what I'm talking about," he said to her, his voice low, and he bent down until his intimidating eyes bored into her cloudy blue ones. "Let go." she tried to pull her wrist from his fingers, but I could see the easy impatience flicker across his face. "The hard way then," Trey muttered to her, and she barely had time to open her mouth before he twisted her arm the opposite way. I heard it pop, though it wasn't broken yet, but it must've hurt pretty badly. I watched as her face contorted with pain, but she didn't do anything. "Tell me now, Fawn." Trey demanded, right before he plowed her hard into the ground. She gasped, as if she was trying to speak. He waited patiently for her to continue.

22. Betreyl She started shaking again, laughing. "Oasis," I snarled. She brought her free hand up, smacking me square on the jaw; I let her go, standing. Once she was on her feet, her fist connected under my sternum. I fell into a coughing fit. I'd forgotten how hard she could hit. I glared, lips pulling back to snarl as I reached for my gun. She flipped, landing in front of me. "Now, now Betreyl, you wouldn't hurt a lady now, would you?" She smirked. I gave her a mocking smirk before pulling my arm back and punching her. She flew through the air before doing a little flip and landing on her feet a fair distance away, "Betreyl, that wasn't nice."

23.Emily Just as Fawn--or Oasis--jumped back in Trey's direction, I aimed for her shoulder and pulled the trigger. She cried out in pain, and she fell onto the ground with a dull thud, blood spilling from the wound on her shoulder. After a moment, she looked up. Her eyes were wide with surprise, but it seemed as if she knew what she'd done. "Umm..." she said softly. “I didn't do it?" "Yeah, right, /you/ didn't." Trey snapped. "Now what the hell are you hiding from us?!" She didn't say anything for a moment. Then she murmured, "You'd better run fast."

24. Betreyl I glared at her, "What are you talking about?" "An ambush." She muttered. A silence fell over us. "Where?!" I demanded. She smiled, "When you're least expecting it." I cursed under my breath—very uncharacteristically. "Just because you told us this doesn't mean we're going to let you go," I smirked, making her stand, "That’s far from the point."

25. Emily Quicker than I could see, Trey reached up, grabbed my hand, and pretty much dragged me to the ground next to him. "How strong is Casper over there?" he hissed. I narrowed my eyes at him. "/Deimos/," I emphasized his name, "could probably strangle you with his bare hands." "Oh. Good." Trey gave me his lunatic smile again. I shuddered. "Then he can have guard duty." I indicated for my friend to come closer, and once he did, Trey hauled Fawn from the ground as if she weighed nothing at all and tossed her into Deimos's arms. For a moment I watched his pale face rearrange itself into something that looked like disgust, and the bleeding girl obliviously smiled up at him. "You know..." she began softly, as if she was going to try and make a deal with him. But his lip pulled back to reveal sharp, pointed teeth, his red eyes glaring down at her, and while still holding her by the wrists, he let her dangle in his arms. And, since he was about six feet five inches, and she was about five four, it worked out more than nicely. Then, just as I was about to snicker, I felt a cold, clammy hand tangle itself into my hair, pulling my head back. I found myself staring into the rotting face of a ghoul, one side of his face bloody as if he'd ripped the skin from it. I reached up, grabbed his head, and twisted it from his body with a sickening squish. I threw it to the ground as his body fell limp, wiping my hand on the front of my shirt. I heard moaning as more ghouls surrounded us, and I looked around to make sure everybody was ready. Deimos had a cleaver in one hand and looked as if he was willing to use Fawn as a weapon if anyone came too close. I looked over at Trey, but all he seemed to be doing was smiling, as if this was the greatest thing in the world. And just as I was about to raise my gun, a knife flew right past my face, just as a ghoul jumped on top of me from where they were hiding in the brush. We fell to the ground, and at the last minute, I kicked him away, hearing his neck break as he hit the tree behind me. But when I stood up again, a zombie reached for me, her hand grabbing the hem of my shirt. Frantic, I pushed her away, but as she fell she ripped my shirt further than I'd expected, exposing my side. Now, not only could I be hit there, but everyone could see what I'd been trying to hide: an arrangement of grotesque wire stitches running across my skin like patchwork, the only things keeping me from falling apart. If anyone could see, I'd never know. Because right then, a zombie grabbed a fistful of my coat and hauled me to the ground.

26. Betreyl I sighed, closing my eyes, my body relaxing. This would be easy. I felt as though I was slowly evaporating, which meant it was working. I opened my eyes again to see a dense fog covering the area. I pulled out my guns, still smiling, "This will be easy."

27. Emily I'd just rid myself of the zombie who'd grabbed me, looking up to find that there was /fog/ rolling in, seeming to come from nowhere. Another ghoul was coming for me, but I kicked him impatiently out of the way. "Deimos!" I yelled. "Are you almost done?" "Positive." his calm voice echoed through the mist. I swore I saw him swing Fawn in front of him a few times to ward off the ghouls coming for him. "But where's--?" I began, barely having time to turn my head before I felt a hand close over my mouth. For a moment, I panicked, thinking another zombie had gotten a hold of me. Then I felt Trey's black hair brush over my shoulder, and I was suddenly uncomfortable having him so close. "Crack," he replied, pretending to break my neck. "Are you always this distracted? It's a wonder you haven't died yet." "Have you killed them all?" I demanded from beneath his freezing fingers. He smiled, and pushed the index finger on his opposite hand directly on one of the wire stitches holding the skin on my side together. /How could he know? With the fog and with my jacket, nobody could see…./ "All of them except those three," he said, and just as he finished speaking Deimos cut all of their heads in half with one swing of his knife.

28. Betreyl I backed up, letting the fog fade away. I was thankful it wasn’t fuzzy anymore, “Lets keep going. We should get there before more come." Fawn looked at me. "There will be more in Cetbal." "Let them come," I laughed, "We're more than capable of taking them down. Besides we can always ditch anything we don't need," I said, looking pointedly at her. She cringed. "Let’s go."

29. Emily “Look,” I said, as I curled my legs up to my chest. We’d managed to find a new place to stay, which was an old broken down shack that looked as if it might’ve been a tool shed. Though none of us were going to get any sleep, it was nice to have some sort of shelter. “What’s the deal with this whole thing, anyways? Is Cetbal really under attack or not?” Fawn frowned. “Yes it’s under attack.” She said. I waited for more, but she refused to say more, even when Trey twisted her already bruised arm. “This is abuse.” She said in an injured voice. “I’m just showing how much I missed you.” Trey sneered. “Is anyone coming?” Fawn spread her fingers out on the soil, since the floorboards had rotted away. “N-No.” I could tell by her voice that she was close to tears. I felt a pang of guilt. Maybe she was forced, I thought. Maybe they have someone close to her as a hostage. Deimos had made himself comfortable on the splintering wood of the table inside. Our heads turned towards him to confirm that what Fawn was saying was the truth. He regarded us with his blood red eyes. “Positive.” “Soooo…” Trey turned back to the silver-haired girl. “What’s your motive, hmm? For leading the ghouls to us?”

30.Betreyl She shook her head. This was getting frustrating. I clenched my jaw, snarling. She recoiled. "Fawn, if you want to keep your arm, I suggest you'd tell me," I growled. She shook her head, causing my grip to tighten.
